Spiritual support

Many of the people living in Maisha Bora believe they will never escape from poverty because they are cursed. People are trapped into believing they are worthless or powerless to change their situation and a self fulfilling fatalism prevails.

Our staff are all local to the region they work in and they are sensitive to the difference between cultural traditions on the one hand - which define identity, and these sorts of false beliefs on the other - which are contributing to a status quo of poor health, productivity and self esteem.

A part of this programmes is focused on working alongside local people to empower them overcome these beliefs which are holding them in poverty.

Our staff are motivated by a love for the people they work with and use biblical principles are as the basis of their work;

Confronting the belief that children have no value can be used to tackle the exploitation of children as sex workers. Affirming that male and female are of equal value can enable girls as well as boys to gain the consent of their parents for a school education. Demonstrating that each person in Maisha Bora is created with value and purpose empowers people to overcome fatalism for themselves.
