Case study: Jane Wangeci

Jane Wangeci lives with her mother in a rental house in Maisha Bora. Her mother works occasionally and earns about Ksh. 60 per day (50p) whenever she secures casual labour.

Jane has two other sisters and three brothers all of whom are either too young or not working. As a widow, and with her wage, Jane's mother is barely able to meet the basic needs of her family.

In their desperation, Jane and another young Somali girl sought work and fell prey to an old man from Isiolo who gave them clothes, food or tiny payments (10 Kenya shillings-about 8p) for their prostitution.

This desperate cycle began when she was just ten years old.

The actions of this old man were discovered. He was taken to the police charged in court and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment where he remains today.

Two girls also remain, scarred by their exploitation and still living in poverty.

Local staff are working alongside children like these to bring them restoration. This is priamrily achieved through the emotional and spiritual support of their work.
