Isiolo
Isiolo is a town in the heart of Kenya with a population of over 12,000 people. The main tarmac road - starting in Nairobi and running through the spine of Kenya - ends in this place, with travelers to Northern Kenya and then Uganda, Sudan and Ethiopia using rocky tracks to head north.
Travelers frequently stop in Isiolo because it is the first major community off the tarmac road.
For a community so far from international borders, this arrangement has seen Isiolo come to behave as a frontier town and host a melting pot of cultures.
A raft of social problems have come with the high number of truck drivers and travelers who pass through the community. In particular drug use and the exploitation of children within the sex trade are real and present problems .
Maisha Bora is itself 3km from the centre point of Isiolo and is sensitive to the cultural climate and problems within Isiolo, being a subset of it.
For more information on the make up and location of Isiolo there is a good introductory article on Wikipedia.
