Become an advocate
Help us to share with others in the UK the situation in Puerto Camacho and how we are working with the community to bring change. We have advocates in churches to share what we are doing and offer ways for those who are interested to play a part in this change story. If you would like to be part of sharing the story in your church, place of work or any other group, please do get in touch.
If you would like someone from FH to visit your church or group to share more about the project and get to know us, we would be more than willing to visit. Caroline, our coordinator between Puerto Camacho and the UK, will be in the UK from July – December 2010 specifically to meet with supporters or anyone who is interested in hearing more about Puerto Camacho.
However you choose to support Puerto Camacho, we would be delighted to have you onboard. Our aim is to offer you a dynamic and fulfilling relational experience. For an overview of the project you can download a copy of our brochure here
Supporters are not committed to any time length and can stop sponsorship support
at any time. Contributions made at any point during the programme all go towards
securing the long term future of this community. Although we ask that individual
sponsors consider a minimum of £20 a month, and groups £50, no amount is too
small. There is also no limit to the monthly sponsorship amount, enabling
sponsors to give as they are able to and as they choose. Every penny given will
go towards bettering the Puerto Camacho community and supporting them out of
poverty. This type of sponsorship is designed to ensure the maximum possible
gets to the community and as little as possible is needed for administration.
The following are examples of what your support could provide:
- Approximately £7 a month supports us to work with one child
- Approximately £20 a month enables us to train seven local leaders
- Approximately £30 a month enables us to work with one family
- Approximately £185 provides the salary of an FH staff member in Puerto
Camacho for a month
There isn’t a set price tag for the development of a community. In a poverty
situation, there are multiple areas of need. The resources to meet these needs
are limited. The minimum required per year to enable the project to run is
£25,000, however with increased funding we will be better able to meet these
needs. This is why FH Bolivia’s actions are focused on what is called the
“irreducible minimum”:
- Needs which are a priority from a wholistic viewpoint (the needs that most
restrict the development of the children)
- Actions that with a smaller investment can create an important and
perceptible impact
- Actions where the individual child and their environment (family, community,
government) are impacted at the same time
The “irreducible minimum” is principally funded by sponsorship funds and
“irreducible minimum” actions are a part of what is needed to achieve the
complete development of a community and its children (all of their needs).
Sponsorship funds can potentially be multiplied by up to 5 times the
original amount through the leveraging of external sources, such as local
government funding. This means that for a sponsor giving, for example, £20 a
month, FH Bolivia could potentially leverage an extra £100 a month for the
project. All of the funds received would directly benefit Puerto Camacho and
work together to achieve the complete development of the community.
Pray
Prayer is the foundation of this project and seeing really change in the lives of those we serve. Addressing poverty and how to bring about change is no easy task. The issues within the realm of poverty are as complicated and diverse as people themselves. Therefore there isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ solution.
As we walk with the community towards change, obstacles and issues to be resolved will inevitably arise. Apart from needing the financial support to be able to work with the community towards a better future, we also need wisdom, sensitivity, patience and humility to implement a programme which addresses the unique needs of the community, and to appropriately deal with their specific needs as they arise.
This wouldn’t be possible without the God’s guidance through continued prayer. We want to be used in His plans for the people of Puerto Camacho; working on God ideas rather than good ideas. The difference being real lasting change in those we seek to serve, rather than well intentioned but futile efforts.
Please pray for the community of Puerto Camacho, and that we may be instruments of change attuned to God’s guiding. The ‘updates and contact’ section of the website provides the latest information from the community.
