In September 2009 leaders and members of the Puerto Camacho Church, ‘Cristo me fortalice’ (Christ Strengthens Me), worked very work to carry out extensive refurbishments of their own building to house the project. They paid for the refurbishments out of their own limited resources. Refurbishments included:

• Plastering and painting the walls of three rooms to be used as classrooms
• Laying latex flooring in each of the classrooms
• Plastering, painting and repairing a wall in the kitchen to make it sufficient to prepare snacks for the 100 children three afternoons per week
• Building solid cement stairs up to three of the classrooms to replace the old rickety ladder, so the children can reach their classrooms safely

Through walking alongside the local church in Puerto Camacho, it has become very involved in and committed to serving and reaching out to the community through the project and in other ways.
