| As for many of the residents of Nkunga, Veronica is single mother of 4 children, also caring for one grandchild. She has been never married but had children while in her parents’ home. Veronica’s life is quite difficult because she brings up these children alone. Two of her children have already left school due to problems at home. Her first daughter also got a baby before marriage and left the child to be brought up by Veronica. Veronica, being the solebread winner in the family, faces many problems because she hasn’t any piece of land of her own where she can grow food to feed her family. She wholly depends on casual labour which is not available all the time. Veronica also does all the chores in house which include fetching water from a distance and also escorting the grandchild to school every day before she goes for casual labour. Veronica suffers from rheumatism. The dispensary is about 4kms from her home and she has to walk. Sometimes she has no money for medical fees. |  |
