| For Joanina, life is just struggles and many challenges. She says this with tears. Joanina is window. Her husband died 4 years ago and she was left taking care of 6 children which includes one grandchild. Joanina depends on a small stony piece of land which doesn’t yield a lot due to poor soils. Her 3 sons have completed primary school and never joined high school because their mother could not afford to pay school fees. The food she grows is not enough to feed this large family. She looks for casual labour which also doesn’t fully support her. Her twelve-year-old boy has left school and gone to the neighboring village to look for casual work. Joanna’s everyday life includes doing all chores in her house and weeding whilst also looking for casual labour. She lives in fear of the small piece of land which was left by her husband being grabbed by the brothers-in-law. |  |
